The Voice
Commissioned by Scottish Canals and Mackenzie Construction, The Voice is a sculptural artwork created by artist Louise McVey for the regenerated Stockingfield Bridge in Maryhill, Glasgow. Completed in 2023, the piece forms part of the wider public art programme that enhances the bridge and its surrounding landscape.
Fabricated by Sculpture & Design, the sculpture is made from ferrocement, a material chosen for its strength, sculptural flexibility, and long-term durability in an exposed outdoor environment. Ferrocement allows for fine, expressive modelling while maintaining the robustness required for busy public-realm settings.
Positioned prominently within the Stockingfield Bridge site, The Voice adds a distinctive artistic presence to the landmark infrastructure project. Its form and placement invite reflection, offering a moment of stillness within a dynamic urban setting and contributing to the cultural identity of the newly connected canal paths.
