Free To Frolic
Free to Frolic is a large-scale outdoor sculpture by British sculptor Phillip King, unveiled in 2015 and permanently installed at Kistefos Sculpture Park in Jevnaker, Norway. Set within the park's woodland landscape, the work forms part of an internationally significant collection of contemporary sculpture integrated into a former industrial site.
Fabricated in painted steel, the sculpture is composed of bold, geometric elements arranged in a dynamic, open configuration. Strong blocks of colour and intersecting forms create shifting spatial relationships that encourage viewers to move around the work, experiencing it from multiple viewpoints within the landscape.
Sculpture & Design worked closely with the artist to realise the work at monumental scale, providing specialist fabrication expertise to translate the sculptural composition into a robust, precisely engineered structure suitable for long-term outdoor installation. The project demanded careful attention to surface finish, structural integrity and transport logistics to ensure the sculpture performs successfully within its exposed natural setting.
