Last Of Light (3 Needles)
Last of Light (3 Needles) is a large-scale public artwork by artist Sara Barker, commissioned as part of the redevelopment of Angel Court, a prominent public realm site in the City of London near the Bank of England. Installed in 2017, the work acts as a focal point within the piazza, engaging directly with the architectural scale and historic context of the site.
The title references the area's layered history, drawing on the former name of nearby Threadneedle Street, once known as Three Needle Street. Barker's sculptural language weaves together abstract geometry, line and material, creating a composition that appears both suspended and anchored to the surrounding built environment.
Sculpture & Design coordinated, fabricated, and installed the artwork, working closely with the artist and project team to realise the complex structure at architectural scale. The piece incorporates a range of materials including aluminium, stainless steel, mild steel and fibreglass. Located high on the façade facing the public space, Last of Light (3 Needles) shifts in appearance as light and viewpoint change, offering a layered visual experience that rewards both passing and close observation.
