Barrhead Health Centre
The Barrhead Health Centre commission (2011) features a prominent outdoor sculpture created by Glasgow-based artists Iain Kettles and Susie Hunter. Installed at the main entrance of the new health facility in Barrhead, the artwork takes the form of a large structural steel tree, its branches supporting three organic, part-spherical steel "nests." The sculpture introduces a welcoming, symbolic presence to the centre, evoking themes of care, community, and growth.
The tree's trunk includes inlaid timber cheeks, creating contrast and warmth within the otherwise industrial structure. Beneath and around the sculpture, the surrounding ground is set with a hexagonal metal gridwork, visually echoing the geometric forms of the nests and connecting the artwork to the wider site design.
This outdoor sculpture forms one of two major art installations integrated into the new public health facility. The project was fabricated and delivered by Sculpture & Design, who supported the artists from design through installation.
