Shaved Ice
SHAVED ICE was developed in collaboration with artist Jim Lambie for presentation at the Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh. The project formed part of Lambie's ongoing exploration of surface, colour and spatial intervention, requiring design input that was both responsive and precisely controlled.
The work demanded close attention to material behaviour, finish and alignment, ensuring that the physical elements supported the artist's visual language without introducing unnecessary distraction or hierarchy. Fabrication and detailing were approached as integral aspects of the design process, allowing the work to sit confidently within the gallery context while retaining the immediacy and energy characteristic of Lambie's practice.
The completed project reflects a design-led approach to artist collaboration, where technical resolution, material sensitivity and respect for conceptual intent are treated as inseparable.
