Primary School Bike Stations
Sculpture & Design were commissioned by Sustrans to fabricate a series of Primary School Bike Stations as part of a wider effort to support active travel and improve cycling infrastructure for young people.
Working from design concepts developed in collaboration with designers Stone Opera, we produced three versions of a cycle repair and bike-station hub, each offering a gathering point for pupils, integrated tools for repairing and maintaining bikes, an information panel, and built-in seating.
The units were constructed primarily from galvanised and powder-coated steel, chosen for durability and long-term resilience in busy school environments, with hardwood benches adding warmth and tactility. These stations were designed for installation across the National Cycle Network and similar school-based active-travel routes, helping to encourage safe, confident cycling among pupils.
Our role involved detailed design development, precision fabrication, and final assembly, delivering robust, practical infrastructure that supports Sustrans' mission to make active travel easier and more accessible for school communities.
