Maudsley
In 2024, Sculpture & Design were commissioned to fabricate a bespoke sculptural artwork for the new Pears Maudsley Centre for Children and Young People in London. The piece was designed by artist Marcus Coates, whose work often explores empathy, communication, and the relationship between people and their environment, themes that resonate strongly within the Centre's therapeutic setting.
Working closely with Coates and the project team, we transformed the artistic concept into a durable, fully engineered structure suitable for a high-use public space. The sculpture was fabricated in mild steel and finished with a powder-coated surface, providing both robustness and a clean, contemporary aesthetic.
Our involvement covered the full making process: detailed modelling, precision cutting, fabrication, surface preparation, powder coating, and final installation. The result is a carefully crafted artwork that enhances the Centre's identity, offering a welcoming focal point for young people, families, and staff.
