Falkirk Columns (masts), The Helix
Sculpture & Design was commissioned by Falkirk Council to fabricate and install a series of bespoke sculptural columns, also known as masts, for The Helix Park in Falkirk — a large-scale public park and landmark destination.
The columns form a distinctive vertical element within the landscape, each topped with sculptural bird forms that add character, movement and narrative to the space. The birds introduce a sense of life and interaction with the environment, drawing attention upwards and creating visual markers within the park setting.
Our work focused on the manufacture and installation of these tall sculptural structures, requiring careful consideration of structural integrity, durability and long-term performance in an exposed outdoor environment. Precision fabrication and high-quality finishes were essential to ensure the columns performed both technically and visually as permanent public artworks.
Installation was carried out on site with close attention to safety and accuracy, given the scale of the elements and their prominent position within the park. The completed columns contribute to the unique identity of The Helix, enhancing the landscape with contemporary public sculpture and reinforcing the park's role as a significant civic and cultural space.
