This striking gateway sign welcomes visitors to The Helix, the celebrated home of The Kelpies in Falkirk. Crafted from corten steel, the design features a bold silhouette of two horse heads, echoing the iconic Kelpies sculptures created by renowned artist Andy Scott. The weathering steel gives the sign its rich, rust-like patina, ensuring durability while blending harmoniously with the natural landscape.

The sign itself was designed by Hanneke Scott Van Wel, whose concept frames the surrounding scenery like a picture window, creating a dynamic backdrop that changes with the light and seasons. At sunset, the cut out forms glow against vivid skies, while at night, integrated lighting highlights the contours and lettering, making the landmark visible and inviting after dark.

Positioned at a key entrance, this piece is more than a directional marker, it’s a sculptural statement that reflects the park’s identity and celebrates Scotland’s engineering and artistic heritage.
